'Offshore socket' for OranjeWind successfully installed by TenneT

The topside of TenneT's offshore substation was successfully installed in the North Sea on May 21. This marks a significant offshore milestone for the OranjeWind wind farm.

On Saturday, May 17th, the ready-to-install topside departed from the port of Antwerp on a floating pontoon. The structure was then towed via the Scheldt River into Dutch waters and sailed into the North Sea near Vlissingen. On Wednesday, May 21, TenneT successfully installed the topside. The jacket was already installed last year, along with two 220kV AC export cables connecting to shore and one 66kV AC interlink cable connected to the platform in the neighboring wind farm Ecowende.

Offshore Milestone

The installation of the offshore substation is a major milestone for the project. It ensures that the 795 megawatts of renewable electricity OranjeWind will generate (enough to power over 1 million Dutch households) can be transported to the grid via the Velsen landing station. This 'offshore socket' will be ready for use in the fall of 2025. The first foundations for OranjeWind will be installed at sea in the fall of 2026, and the wind farm will be fully operational by the end of 2027.
