Grid operator Tennet has received the grid readiness certificate for OranjeWind's electricity connection to the high-voltage grid from DNV. This means the connection required to bring the electricity generated by OranjeWind ashore meets all the necessary standards and is ready for use. Earlier this year, the offshore substation HKW Beta for OranjeWind was successfully installed at sea. Also the export cables and interlink cable to the sister offshore substation HKW Alpha were connected and terminated by TenneT.

Tennet, RWE and TotalEnergies worked closely together on design and construction of the offshore substation related systems specifically needed for the OranjeWind project. The result of this collaboration is that the “socket at sea” is already equipped with main components for OranjeWind, like scada, it-, communication, protection and metering. Which means it is well prepared to transport the electricity from the wind farm to land.

The “socket at sea” is the seventh standardised 700 MW grid connection that grid operator Tennet has delivered since 2019.
