Filter layer campaign
OranjeWind kicked off

Eemshaven, 24 March 2026

Jan De Nul has started the filter layer campaign for OranjeWind, marking the beginning of the physical preparations for the offshore works for the project. In the coming weeks, the Jan De Nul subsea rock installation vessel Simon Stevin will install the first layer of scour protection, which provides stability and safeguards against seabed erosion. This step is essential to enable the later installation of the 53 foundations for the wind farm.

Matthias Esken, Project Director for OranjeWind, says: “It is good to see that, after months of preparation, the first physical activity is starting as planned. Followed by foundation and cable installations later this year”

The rock material for the filter layer will be loaded in Norway and then transported to the site by the installation vessel. The Simon Stevin is specially designed for this type of work and will place the rocks at the correct locations using its vertical fall pipe.

The work is expected to be completed by May.
