OranjeWind Knowledge Symposium 2026:
Producing with Power

20 May 2026

The OranjeWind Knowledge Symposium has been held for the second year in a row. During the event, themed “Producing with Power”, the Technology Report 2026 was presented. Participants from the energy sector, universities and research institutions, as well as government bodies, were briefed on the progress of the project and the related OranjeWind Knowledge Programme.

During the symposium, Matthias Esken presented the report to Bart Tonnaer, Director of Climate and Energy Transition at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO): “The knowledge programme stands out because of the close collaboration between universities, policymakers, educational institutions and industry. It provides a blueprint for raising societal awareness of the value of large-scale, integrated sustainable energy solutions.”

Throughout the day, speakers shared insights on the system integration of offshore wind, the challenges involved in delivering sustainable energy, and the electrification of energy-intensive industrial sectors.

In the morning, journalist and economist Mathijs Bouman addressed the electrification of industry from an economic perspective. This was followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Nobian, VEMW and TU Delft, who explored both the key challenges and potential solutions related to electrification.

After lunch, several breakout sessions took place, covering topics such as the development and production of offshore wind turbines, hydrogen production, offshore wind forecasting using radar technology, and energy supply for data centres. In addition, six PhD candidates involved in the OranjeWind project presented their research and shared updates on their progress.

Matthias Esken, Project Director OranjeWind: “It is great to see the symposium being organised for the second time and to once again present the OranjeWind Technology Report. Time is moving fast, and so is the progress of the project and the knowledge development within the programme. We have now started offshore activities and are looking ahead to the production phase. We look forward to the third OranjeWind Symposium next year, when there will again be many new insights to share.”
