Site visit OranjeWind team and stakeholders at Sif Rotterdam
08.07.2026
On 30 June, the OranjeWind project team, together with Rijkswaterstaat, Coast Guard and State Supervision of Mines (SodM), visited the Sif factory at the Tweede Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. This is where the 53 monopiles for OranjeWind are currently being produced.
The project team and stakeholders were updated on the latest project developments, the progress of construction preparations, and the upcoming offshore installation of the monopiles, which is set to begin after the summer. This was followed by a tour of the factory, during which Sif provided insight into the different stages of the production process and the specialised expertise involved.
Marco de Krieger, Enforcement Advisor North Sea Rijkswaterstaat: “Since early 2023 we have been involved, primarily as the first point of contact on behalf of the government and to review the project’s work plans. Those plans set out how the design, construction and O&M phases address regulations for, for example, underwater noise, lighting, safety, ecology and archaeology. Now that the offshore construction phase is beginning, we will monitor onshore and offshore whether what is on paper is also happening in practice. I am confident, as the project is being executed by experienced, internationally operating companies. The visit to Sif was both interesting and informative, and it further strengthened our relationship with the OranjeWind project team.”
Kevin van Hoesel, Project Manager at Sif: "At Sif, we are always pleased to welcome our customers and stakeholders and to show them how our impressive products are brought to life."
OranjeWind also emphasised the importance of these kinds of engagements. Project Director Matthias Esken: “After the summer, we will begin the offshore foundation installation, starting with the monopiles. Close cooperation and alignment are essential at this stage. This visit not only provided our visitors valuable insight into the production of our monopiles, but also highlighted the scale and complexity of the work.”
All visitors reflected positively on the site visit, gaining valuable insights into both foundation installation and monopile production.
